Level 2 VMware Support Engineer

Dublin, Ireland / Remote

Responsibilities

This role is dedicated on-site support position for a public sector client on behalf of Triangle. Support is provided primarily during normal business hours but out of hours work will be required from time to time. The role requires support experience of virtual infrastructure environments, strong technical ability in VMware technologies, including some networking and storage. Candidates must have experience supporting VMware ESXi & vSphere, HPE Server and SAN technologies. Practical experience with backup infrastructure solutions, particularly in a virtual environment and disaster recovery solutions and testing is also required. The VMWare Engineer must be willing to work closely with Triangle architects and the client. The candidate must be a self-starter and be able to take ownership of complex issues, ensure SLAs are met and maintain customer satisfaction.

Main responsibilities:

  • The candidate must be able to work as part of the client’s virtualisation team that manages the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, development, upgrade and support the virtual infrastructure
  • Effectively deal with customer Level 2 virtualisation technical issues.
  • Incident, problem and change management to meet defined service level agreements including handling and logging of client issues using the client’s Call Logging software.
  • Pro-actively search out potential issues in the infrastructure and resolve them before they become a problem.
  • Systems management activities, including patching and upgrading
  • Datacentre infrastructure operations and reporting
  • Resolution of complex issues with minimal supervision or review
  • Escalate issues appropriately internally within Triangle or to relevant vendor while remaining within service levels
  • Continuously demonstrate an organised, systematic, disciplined and analytical approach to problem solving, implementing and supporting solutions.
  • Deliver appropriate reports
  • Have excellent oral and written communication skills for effective dialogue with customers, colleagues and superiors.
  • Promote best practices and new methodologies

Requirements

  • Minimum certified to VMware Certified Professional Datacenter Virtualisation 5 (VCP5-DCV) but ideally VMware Certified Professional Datacenter Virtualisation 6 (VCP6-DCV) with 3+ years’ experience with VMware and associated product range
  • VMware vRealize Suite experience highly desirable
  • VMware NSX experience desirable
  • ITIL knowledge and experience desirable
  • Current MCSE or CCNA certification desirable
  • IBM + HPE Server and SAN experience.
  • Data Storage and Management: FC and iSCSI SAN support experience required
  • Commvault, Archserve, Veeam and/or other Back Up Solutions experience
  • Strong experience in the implementation and configuration of VMware Virtual Infrastructure solutions essential.
  • Experience of capacity planning and sizing methodologies for server consolidation and virtualisation projects desirable
  • Security experience desirable.
  • Linux experience desirable
  • Experienced in preparing documentation for client solutions.
  • Proven customer support focus
  • Previous experience in supporting and managing a VMware environment essential.
  • Interested in virtualisation technologies; willing to accept future training and certification
  • Full driving license and willing to travel on-site to clients
  • English: Fluent
